Teacher introduction
Person in charge:
Marita Neitola
I work as a university lecturer in special education at the Department of Teacher Education of University of Turku. Originally, I am a teacher in early childhood education, teacher in special needs and class teacher. I have also studied supervising and consulting, guiding of children’s emotional skills and empowering photography.
As a lecturer, I teach mainly special education pedagogics and special education teachers students. I supervise students’ theses and practical training. My research interests lie in children’s social-emotional competencies, interventions in supporting and educating these competencies in different environments and educators’ own social and emotional skilfulness. I am also fascinated by teachers’ growing reflective thinking.
I have participated in developing and implementing divers measures and methods for social-emotional learning (e.g., Papilio https://www.jyu.fi/edupsy/fi/tutkimus/tutkimushankkeet/papilio and Side-by-Side -project funded by Finnish National Agency for Education https://sites.utu.fi/rinnalla/en/).
In my leisure time, I enjoy reading, knitting and playing with my grandchildren.
